In close collaboration with the local Institute for Digital Humanities, the correspondence of the Austrian orientalist Joseph von Hammer-Purgstall (1774–1856) – previously published in print and as a PDF in 2011 and 2018 – is now available as a digital edition.
This correspondence, which is constantly being expanded, is an impressive testament to his wide-ranging scholarly dialogue and his central role in Oriental studies. Hammer-Purgstall’s correspondence spans the whole of Europe, reaching as far as the USA and India, and constitutes an irreplaceable source for the history of Oriental studies.
